Gusts up to 60mph could hit the Western Isles this weekend as band of bad weather sweeps across the islands.

Wind speeds are expected to be higher than forecast by the Met Office yesterday.

A yellow "be aware" weather warning has been updated to cover most of Scotland when the gusts peak on Sunday.

Winds speeds are due to increase from Saturday afternoon, reaching severe gale levels by midnight. Rain, drizzle at times, is also expected.

Sunday will be blowy all day as an area of low pressure pass north of the Hebrides, with wind speeds touching storm force in places.

Strong gusts are set to continue into Monday.

Given increased outdoor activity at this time of year there is a slightly greater likelihood of disruption, said the Met Office.

Rough seas will affect some Western Isles ferry services.
