Hebrides News

High winds of around 60mph and rain showers are forecast to hit the Western Isles later.

A deepening low weather system off Iceland will bring gales to north and west coast of Scotland.

There is the chance of storm force winds in exposed areas in the Hebrides - particularly in Uist and Barra - for a period.

Wind speeds are expected to strengthen from Friday afternoon.

Gusts of 50 - 60mph, accompanied by heavy rain, are forecast into Saturday.

Overnight temperatures may well rise above Friday’s daytime readings. Southern parts of the Western isles could hit 10°C.

Some morning ferry services are likely to be affected

Rough seas and high winds are likely to disrupt some island ferry services, particularly off South Uist and Barra where a big swell is expected.

Met office deputy chief meteorologist, Dan Harris, said: “Saturday will see strong winds and another spell of wet weather, particularly over the northwest of the UK where the rain is likely to be locally heavy and persistent.”

Conditions are forecast to improve by Saturday afternoon.
