Three people have been injured in a crash on the main route through Skye.

Two of the three vehicles involved in the collision caught fire.

Three ambulances, two air ambulances, and two trauma teams were sent to the scene.

One casualty was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, two others were transported to Broadford Hospital in Skye.

The A87 from the ferry port in Uig to the Skye Bridge was shut at Sconser from 4pm yesterday

Emergency services attended and the road was fully shut for several hours while specialist police collision investigators examined the scene. There is no alternative route.

One lane opened to traffic - including vehicles travelling to and from the Uist and Harris ferry - late last night

The route remains restricted this morning (Friday) with lengthy delays and tailbacks with single file traffic getting through under temporary traffic lights.

Ferry traffic should allow more time for their journey to and from Uig.
