A floating seaweed mowing machine - which looks like a giant lawnmover - came to the rescue of a lamb in danger of drowning in the sea.

Cutters, Calum Iain Macmillan and Kenny Macphee - who work for local firm, Hebridean Seaweed - spotted the animal struggling in the current on Monday in East Loch Roag off Crulivig in the Uig district of Lewis.

They steered their amphibious paddlewheel vessel towards the Suffolk blackface cross.

The machine's cutting arm was lowered into the water and the lamb scrambled onboard.

The seaweed mower made for the shore and it safely disembarked, running off to join its mother in a nearby croft.

Kenny Macphee said: “It was swimming in a funny way. At first we thought it was a seal but then realised it was a sheep in the water.”
