Inquiries over a missing woman have switched to the village of Borve on the west coast of Lewis after new information emerged today (Friday).

Islanders are urged to check outhouses in case she has sought shelter.

Susan Forde from County Kerry in Ireland has been missing for a month.

Her family are extremely concerned for her wellbeing.

The 56-year-old kept in touch with family back moving to France in April.

But contact with her loved ones suddenly ceased in October.

Believing she was in the Montpellier region of the country they launched a social media appeal in both English and French languages urging people to keep an eye out for her.

They said: “Maybe you sold her a plane, train, ferry or bus ticket, maybe she was in your taxi.

“Maybe you recognise her from a hospital admission or maybe you saw her on a beach or served her a coffee.”

This week it emerged the 56-year-old travelled to Scotland and was known to have visited Edinburgh a few weeks ago.

The occupational therapist then headed north to Lewis.

Police have determined she left the Caladh Inn Hotel in Stornoway around 5pm on Sunday, making her way towards the town centre.

It has now emerged she took a taxi to the Borve Country House Hotel, some 15 miles north of Stornoway, where she was left in the car park.

She did not enter the hotel and has not been seen since.

Police officers have been conducting door-to-door inquiries in the district, asking people if they remember seeing her.

Searchers are also scouring the area on foot said villages.

Susan is described as slim, with blonde, shoulder-length hair.

When last seen, she was wearing an orange top, a dark-coloured jacket with white lining, blue trousers or jeans, walking boots, a cream/grey coloured tammy hat, black glasses and carrying a backpack.

Sergeant Donald Macleod, of Stornoway police station said: “We are becoming increasingly concerned as there have been no sightings or contact from Susan since she was dropped off by the taxi in Borve.

“I am asking anyone who may have seen her or knows where she is to get in touch.

“I am also asking people to check sheds and outbuildings in case Susan has sought shelter.”

Anyone who can help is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference number 1262 of Wednesday, 2 November, 2022.
