Islanders on Barra have enjoyed the last three nights at the movies thanks to stormy weather which prevented a mobile cinema from leaving the island.

The Screen Machine - the UK’s only full-time self-contained mobile cinema truck - was marooned in Castlebay.

A force eight gale which stopped ferry sailings for days blew up just after it arrived on Tuesday.

Film screenings scheduled for South Uist are cancelled.

Gael force winds are still threatening the ferry service on the inter-island route to Uist today but the crew of the MV Loch Alainn were determined to clear the backlog of traffic and undertook sailings earlier.

The cinema made it to Benbecula for tonight (Fri) but A Perfect Storm is not on its listings. The featured films are Moana and Rogue One.
