An islander taking a car to be scrapped was caught driving without insurance.

Toby Peter Marshall of 2A Broker, Point, Lewis, pleaded guilty to the offence at Stornoway Sheriff Court.

Procurator fiscal Karen Smith told the court a police patrol spotted his car on the Braighe road by Point.

Computer checks showed it had no insurance and he was pulled over.

Lawyer Angus Macdonald urged the sheriff not to disqualify the 44-year-old, saying his licence was important to his job and there was some confusion over the insurance.

Sheriff David Sutherland imposed six penalty point on his licence and fined him £300.
