Sir,

Congratulations to BBC Radio5 Live for picking up on the news that 26 SNP MPs signed a letter to the UK government urging a quick decision on the proposed new runway at either Heathrow or Gatwick.

The SNP’s transport spokesperson in the Commons pointed out that 90% of Scotland’s tourism and import/export trade came through non-Scottish airports, and that the delay in the runway decision was having a negative impact on trade north of the border.

He is quite right to raise this issue. But perhaps the SNP’s spokesperson should also consider the impact on Scottish trade of continually campaigning to place such a vital link for Scotland’s economy in the hands of a foreign country.
