Plan to identify who owns Scotland’s land 25/5/15
A plan to identify who owns what part of Scotland has a target to registering every parcel of land within ten years.
The Scottish Government said the mapping project will boost land reform and “provide a clear understanding of who owns our land.”
At present, only three quarters of Scotland’s land mass is on the Land Register.
Environment Minister Paul Wheelhouse made the announcement following the publication of a land reform review report which included a recommendation to increase the rate of land registrations.
Paul Wheelhouse said: “We are committed to addressing land reform that will help build a flourishing modern Scotland.
He said: “A fundamental step on this journey must be having a clear understanding of who owns our land in Scotland.
“This will benefit everyone as land transactions are more difficult and expensive if it’s not already on the land register.
“This is a vital underpinning step in Scotland’s land reform journey and will ensure that at last everyone will know who owns Scotland.”
