Science resources for schools           26/10/14

Young Engineers and Science Clubs (YESC) Scotland are sparking foodie fever in the Western Isles, dishing up a feast of free science resources to all  26 primary and secondary schools in the area.

Teachers have been undertaking hands-on training sessions in things like making ice cream and other food-related lessons.

Schools will also receive a Science on the Menu learning resource kits to encourage children to take an interest in science, technology, engineering and maths subjects.

The packs funded by the Scottish Government’s Food for Thought education fund, are jam packed with science investigation equipment to provide teachers with a practical and engaging tool to help encourage primary school pupils to develop a taste for the topics.

Jane Martin, YESC Programme Director said; “Food and drink is one of Scotland’s key economic sectors, and it’s important that we nurture and inspire the next generation of food scientists, technologists and engineers.

“The Science on the Menu packs have been designed to help children learn the science behind the food we eat in a fun and engaging way that will hopefully encourage young people to pursue some of the excellent opportunities the sector offers.”
