Schools on Barra are closing at lunchtime today due to extreme winds gusts from the adverse weather.
Transport operators have been informed and buses will collect pupils at 12.30pm.
The deteriorating conditions are expected to reach storm force with heavy rain and up to 60mph south easterly gusts in the area this afternoon.
A Comhairle spokesman said: “Our main concern is getting children home safely because the winds are getting worse this afternoon.
