“Shame on same-sex marriage supporting MSPs”                      25/3/14

Sir,

Not that we are likely to forget them, and for the right reasons, but there are 18 MSPs in the Scottish Parliament who are worthy of our applause and commendation. Three of these weighty MSP’s are within the geographical bounds of the Highland & Islands and deserve to be specially mentioned.

Whatever view we have may about their political leanings, their names deserve to be recorded in perpetuity for the, morally correct and proper, stand they took against the sickening same-sex marriage bill that passed on the very black Tuesday afternoon of 4th February in Edinburgh.

That day will undoubtedly go down as one of the most sorrowful and demoralizing days in Scotland’s history, thanks to the 105 ramshackle MSP’s who flung out the windows at Holyrood, everything that true and proper marriage stands for. Well, they rather proudly think they did but the reality is otherwise.

They can be assured that sane and decent folk across the country will never recognise the ramshackle and crooked unions which they brazenly dared to legalize. And for the record, and the history books, this is the vast majority. The good people of Scotland did not approve nor agree with the sin sick law which they passed, and they will not be allowed to forget it.

The stalwart champions will not be forgotten either, but for very different reasons, namely: Fergus Ewing (Inverness and Nairn), Jamie McGrigor (Highlands and Islands) and Dave Thompson (Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch). Whatever else they are, these men are men of honesty and integrity, and deserve to be elected again at the next Scottish Parliament count, if for nothing else but for their defence of decency, moral values and common sense.

Although not an SNP fan, I would still not be disappointed to see them all back at Holyrood. They stuck to their guns when, I’m very sure, they were harangued and belittled for their principled and honourable stand against same-sex marriage.

As for Dr Alasdair Allan (Na h-Eileanan an Iar) the best thing his islands' constituents can do is vote him out at the next count. He may have voted against the bill with his lips, but his heart said something different. He has made it known in the press that he is not really unhappy that the bill passed.

The Bible reminds us that a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways, and cannot be trusted. Mr Allan knows very well that he would have been across the Minch for the last time, had he said 'yes.' He would also have received a similar battering as sustained by the CalMac ferry of late on the high seas.

Also on the immoral for 'same-sex marriage' list of shame are: John Finnie, Rhoda Grant, Mike MacKenzie, Mary Scanlon, David Stewart and Jean Urquhart – who all voted for the sin sick bill. Wiser constituents in the Highlands and Islands will, I am quite sure, not marry any of them with their ‘X’ at the next election. Shame, shame, shame on them all.
