SNP MSP Alasdair Allan has congratulated a Kenyan orphanage, founded by Gemma Steele from South Uist, on being chosen to benefit from a charity auction arranged by outgoing First Minister, Alex Salmond.

Alex Salmond decided to auction off the official gifts he had received in his time as First Minister for a number of charities, including St Jerome’s orphanage in Kenya.

Alasdair Allan commented: “When Gemma met Alex Salmond recently he was clearly impressed by the outstanding work she had done to help transform the lives of young people in Kenya.

“It is great to see a charity with such strong island connections being chosen as one of the beneficiaries of Alex’s decision to sell many of the gifts he received as First Minister in aid of good causes.”
