Stornoway Coastguard helicopter airlifted an injured sailor off a military vessel off Barra.
The casualty hurt his back after a fall onboard the vessel.
He was flown to hospital in Glasgow on Monday.
His ship was one of an international fleet gathering off the Hebrides for Nato war games.
Operation Joint Warrior is to start in Scotland on Sunday.
