Inquiry into rural cost of living 21/2/12
Sirs,
How refreshing to read of the OFT being requested to initiate an inquiry into the high prices of goods and a subject close to my heart, the high price of fuel. After reading John Malone and Archie Harpers letters dated 19.2.12 I feel some momentum growing for questions to be answered.
Doing some simple mathematics I cannot grasp how a differential of .14p per litre exists between Inverness and the Western Isles. For example: A 10,000 gallon tanker carrying 45,500 litres of Inverness priced fuel has cost £6,370 to get to our pumps. That is a worse case scenario in that a tanker left Inverness and head for Stornoway.
Its not logistical science to realise that it would not cost that much if volumes were increased and alternative means of transport were used. Which they are. So my question is, for every litre of fuel I purchase, who is getting .14p extra of my hard earned cash.
The cartel has some serious questions that need answering and I consider it time that a public presentation be given to residents of the Western Isles on distribution costs incurred by the distributor(s). Its a simple request.
The OFT will be asking the same questions so why not take the initiative and show
some transparency in an honest presentation. I want to know who is skimming the cream
from my milk.
