The Royal Navy bomb disposal experts blew up an suspected unexploded ordnance which was washed ashore at Drimsdale in South Uist.

The device was spotted on the quietly used beach last week.

The naval bomb squad travelled from Faslane and carried out an controlled explosion this week.

It is believed the ordnance may have been part of a Rapier anti-aircraft missile.
