A clean-up is underway on island coastal roads where Storm Ashley deposited a large amount of debris.

A storm surge piled up the sea while westerly winds flung lumps of seaweed and shingle ashore.

Top wind speed was 89mph at Luskentyre while gusts of 87mhp were recorded in Lochmaddy.

West facing roads were worse hit with debris strew nalong the carriageway.

This included causeways in Uist and Benbecula.

The road at Stinky Bay was still shut this morning with a “considerable amount” of debris creating a hazard.  has spread across some of the local roads and causeways and is still being cleared this morning.

The Balivanich to Creagorry road was closed with Comhairle nan Eilean Siar roads division to clear shingle and seaweed off a section of the route.

Debris also spread across the Eriskay Causeway and motorists were advised to avoid the area if possible.

Police Scotland said drivers should approach roads in the area with caution and consider alternative routes where necessary until affected roadways are clear.

Storm damage also affected Uig pier in Skye with MV Hebrides considering diverting to Ullapool. However, she was able to dock safely at Uig.
