Saturday’s ferry service between Barra and Oban will operate revised timings to allow the crew to receive sufficient rest between hours of duty following a disruption today.

Creel ropes and buoys wrapped round her propeller and rudder prevented the vessel from leaving Castlebay.

Sailings were suspended until divers managed to remove the obstruction.

The delay meant the MV Isle of Lewis is operating around seven hours behind schedule tonight.

Essential crew members will not get off duty until after 1am which means they will not have sufficient rest hours before being due back on watch in the morning.

The ferry’s departure has been delayed until 9am as a result.

Provided with a minimum of 10 hours of rest in any 24 hours period
