Restraining order bans islander from harassing ex-partner      4/6/14

A Stornoway man who repeatedly harassed his ex-partner has been served with a restraining order to keep away from her.

Gavin Mackay has been instructed not to approach the woman’s house nor to go near her at all. He must not contact her in any way whatsoever, including in person nor by letter, phone, text, or social media.

The 33-year-old whose address was given as care of 66 Anderson Road, Stornoway, previously pleaded guilty to two set of offences - one midway through a trial last month - of hassling the woman including hiding in her house on one occasion .

Mackay also accepted a third charge of breaching bail by trying to pass on facebook messages to his former girlfriend through another person.

At Stornoway Sheriff Court sheriff David Sutherland imposed a two year community payback order.

Mackay must complete 200 hours of unpaid community service work by next June.

He will also be tagged for the next 12 months under a ban from approaching his ex-partner’s address.

In addition, the sheriff granted a two-year non-harassment order which requires Mackay to cease all contact and not try to speak or communicate with her in anyway.
