A restraining order to keep away from his ex-wife has been imposed on a Western Isles man.

Neil Ferguson was warned he faces prison if he goes near the woman.

The 49-year-old of 5 St Michael’s Cottages, Castlebay, Barra, told her he was “going to haunt you for the rest of my life,” during a series of “aggressive and intimidating” behaviour incidents.

Lochmaddy Sheriff Court was told he put the woman in a state of fear and alarm and, at one point, lunged towards her.

He repeatedly entered her home uninvited, refused to leave, and took the car keys from her vehicle.

Ferguson previously pleaded guilty to the charge.

Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood pointed out the offence “justified imprisonment” but his record didn’t.

He imposed a non-harassment order preventing him from having any contact with the woman.

Ferguson is banned from approaching closer than 50 metres to the woman’s home or workplace for the next two years.

In addition, he is placed on a community payback order and must complete 200 hours of unpaid community service work.

Sheriff Fleetwood warned any failure to obey the sentence would result in Ferguson going to jail.

He highlighted: “If he breaches the order he can expect to spend the summer in Inverness.”
