The Red Arrows will stop over in Lewis next week as they transit home following a
Canadian tour.
Under present arrangements, the Red Arrows are expected to arrive at Stornoway Airport
on Tuesday afternoon subject to weather and other conditions.
Their time of arrival for the refuelling visit is estimated to be between 2pm and
4pm. However, arrangements can change at any point up to and including the scheduled
time.
On their journey back to the UK the team will fly in stages calling in at different
airports to take on fuel as their Hawk jets cannot refuel in mid-air over the Atlantic.
Stopovers at Narsaruaq in Greenland, and Keflavik, Iceland, are scheduled before
Stornoway.
No display is planned for Stornoway - the visit is a technical stop on the way to
their home base of RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire
The 12-strong fleet of aircraft touched down last month at Stornoway Airport on their
western outbound flight to Canada.
The UK’s Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team - to give the team their formal title - has
spent the past five weeks on the other side to the Atlantic. They were invited by
the Royal Canadian Air Force to mark its centennial and, concurrently, celebrate
the Red Arrows 60th Diamond Season.
The Red Arrows have toured across six Canadian cities taking part in a series of
airshows, plus flypasts in iconic locations including Toronto, Montreal and the Niagara
Falls.
Their last event is today (11pm UK time) with a flypast at St John’s on the country’s
east coast.
