Nine of the distinctive red-coloured Hawk jets will perform stunning manoeuvres for 20 minutes in the sky over Stornoway.

The squadron last visited the islands in 2001, some 14 years ago.

Famous Red Arrows to perform spectacular air display over Stornoway

18 March 2015

A harbour board spokesperson said: “The Red Arrows have been invited by Stornoway Port Authority to celebrate its 150th Anniversary this year.

“Royal Air Force annually receives 200-300 applications for their displays, so the successful locations are very carefully selected.

“The display is considered as a very effective way of promoting and marketing Stornoway port, the town and the Western Isles.”

Stornoway is one of just three RAF shows scheduled in Scotland this year.

Stornoway Port Authority will also encourage visiting cruise liners in port at the time to enjoy the event.

The Red Arrows, officially known as the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, is the aerobatics display team of the Royal Air Force based at RAF Scampton.

Displays are subject to operational changes, which can occur right up to a scheduled performance
