Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is holding two key council committee meetings  in Harris on Wednesday.

The local authority’s formal committee meetings are invariably held in Stornoway.

However, stirred by the experience of venturing to Benbecula as a governing body for the first time in ten years arrangements were put in track for a similar visit to Harris.

So on Wednesday, the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee will convene in Talla na Mara. In the afternoon, the Policy and Resources Committee will discuss financial issues.

Both meetings are open to the public to observe. People can pop in and out as they please.

Kevin Hobbs, chief executive of Scottish Government ferry owners Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL) will attend in person to address the transportation forum on progress in delivering new ships to replace CalMac’s aging fleet.

CMAL’s presentation is also expected to cover harbour infrastructure upgrades and future project plans.
