The dedicated freight ferry, MV Clipper Ranger, has left Stornoway for the last time.

The 122 metre-long vessel was leased by Cal Mac to replace the aging MV Muirneag in September 2013.

The Seatruck-owned Ranger was initially taken on for a year to cover the overnight freight service between Stornoway and Ullapool until the new £42 million MV Loch Seaforth was supposed to enter service in 2014.

But a series of problems delayed the introduction of the Seaforth on the route so the Ranger’s charter was extended.

She departed Lewis on Friday, setting course to Heysham where she is expected to operate on the Irish Sea haulage service.

The MV Loch Seaforth is now handle freight trucks on an overnight service in addition to two day-time runs to transport mainly cars and passengers.
