Isles FM is returning to the airwaves after equipment failure knocked it out for several weeks.

Generous donors responded to a public fundraising appeal which took in £8,000.

A sum of £2,000 from Lewis businessman, Simon Pearson, helped tip the scales to reach the target.

The community radio station has been broadcasting test programmes this week, and intends to relaunch with a 24-hour marathon live broadcast from 7.30am on Friday.

Isles FM managing director, David Morrison, thanked all their supporters and donors.

Mr Morrison said: “One thing we have learnt is that we can never be complacent about our funding reserves - emergencies like this can come out of the blue, but we have to be ready for them, and to meet our ongoing running costs.”
