Children excited as Queen strolls by         23/7/10

Queen arrives in Stornoway for Hebridean voyage

Three Stornoway children got an exclusive treat when the Queen waved and smiled at them after disembarking from a plane in Stornoway today.

Only two groups of people were at the airport hoping to spot the royals arriving for a summer cruise around the Hebrides.

One was led by Alice Macaskill who took her three grandchildren - eight-year-old twins Andrew and Daniel Macdonald as well as Amy Hutchinson, 12, - along to see the royals entourage.

They were excited when the Queen casually strolled by right beside them and crunched her fingers twice in a special wave directly to the thrilled youngsters in the public foyer of the terminal building.

A delighted Mrs Macaskill of Flesherin, Point, Lewis, said: “We got a special friendly wave. It wasn’t a posh wave as she usually does but a friendly granny-type one. She didn’t have a hat on and it was nice to see her hair.”

“We had the best view ever - just inside the airport terminal. She gave us a smile. It was really nice to see her.

Amy of Doig Crescent, Stornoway, said: “It was lovely, really friendly. Princess Beatrice was in the back of a car and she gave us a big smile.

Andrew and Daniel of Balmerino Drive, Stornoway, said: “The princesses were there and we got a big wave from them too.“
