One of the world’s most famous modern ocean liners is to visit Stornoway this week.

The MS Queen Elizabeth is due to make her first-ever call into the port during a round-Britain voyage.

The 16-deck cruiseliner is scheduled to anchor outside Arnish on Wednesday morning to allow her passengers a full day sightseeing around Lewis and Harris.

The Queen Elizabeth is in Orkney on Monday and will be at Cape Wrath on Tuesday before sailing to the Hebrides.

Angus Struthers, Cunard director, said: "The visit is part of a schedule which “offers incredible richness and variety, that appeal to all."

MS Queen Elizabeth can carry over 2,000 passengers and has a crew of 900.

The 90,400 gross tonne vessel cost £350 million to build in 2010.
