One of the world’s most famous modern ocean liners is to visit Stornoway in 2016

The MS Queen Elizabeth is due to make her first-ever call into the port during a round-Britain voyage.

The 16-deck cruiseliner is expected to arrive at 8am on Wednesday, 29 June 2016 to allow her passengers a full day sightseeing around Lewis and Harris.

She will depart at 4.30am the following morning.

Operator Cunard Line revealed the Stornoway visit during as it unveiled her 2016 programme.

The visit is part of a schedule which “offers incredible richness and variety, that appeal to all, said Angus Struthers, Cunard director.

Mr Struthers added: “The destinations visited are one of the main reasons why people choose to take a cruise.

“The most iconic destinations all share qualities exemplified by Cunard such as history, glamour, romance and renown.

“Our 2016 cruises focus on our top-rated ports, which continually receive the highest scores for customer satisfaction.”

MS Queen Elizabeth can carry over 2,000 passengers and has a crew of 900.

The 90,400 gross tonne vessel cost £350 million to build five years ago.
