Youth banned from all pubs and licensed shops 30/3/14
A 20-year-old island man must obey a stringent list of conditions if he wants to
keep his freedom warned an island sheriff.
Alasdair Macleod of Monard, Barvas, Lewis, pleaded guilty to assaulting another local
youth.
He also admitted using threatening behaviour towards him.
At Stornoway Sheriff Court on Friday, procurator fiscal David Teale said Macleod
went into a Stornoway town centre pizza shop and “immediately acted aggressively”
towards a local youth in the queue early hours of Sunday 8 September.
The fiscal said Macleod “put his face into” the youth’s face, was shouting and swearing,
and uttering obscenities.
Macleod also spat on his head, said the fiscal.
Lawyer Angus Macdonald pleaded for the sheriff not to send his client to custody
saying Macleod very much regretted the incident.
Sheriff David Sutherland imposed a two year community payback order.
He also banned him from drinking alcohol for 24 months and from entering any pub
or licensed premises - including the Co-op or Tesco supermarkets - until the end
of March 2016.
Macleod must also give a breath test, as required, to his supervising social worker
or a police officer as well as attend any alcohol treatment programme suggested.
In addition, a curfew was imposed on Macleod, requiring him to stay inside his home
between 9pm and 6am every night for the next year.
The sheriff ordered him to undertake 200 hours of unpaid community service work.
He is also to pay £250 compensation to his victim at the rate of £25 a week.
Sheriff David Sutherland warned: “Given your history, it is almost inevitable a breach
of anything means you will go to jail.”
