An opportunity to live in one of Scotland’s most picturesque, rural environments
for a 3 year fixed term period in a challenging and rewarding role.
A unique opening to be involved in the delivery of a multi million pound redevelopment
project for one of Scotland’s premier visitor attractions. The magnificent Standing
Stones of Calanais are based on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis and are famous
worldwide as an example of one of the most complete historic stone circles in Europe.
The visitor centre is currently embarking on a huge redevelopment project are currently
looking for a Project Delivery Director to oversee the project, secure funding and
direct the successful delivery of the new Callanish Visitor Centre, on behalf of
the Urras nan Tursachan Board. In addition, you will be tasked with ensuring that
the new visitor centre delivers the maximum benefit for the trust, local community
and the wider tourism industry of the Outer Hebrides.
Key Responsibilities:
Managing and Securing Funding
- Work closely with HLF, CnES, HIE and other project partners to ensure the funding
package for the project is complete
Delivery of Project
- Lead the relationship with the professional design team, managing them from the completion
of feasibility study and design development to RIBA stage D
- Direct project through all capital stages to be ready for construction stage
- Co-ordinate design reviews and approvals between UNT and design team
- Plan and sequence activities required to deliver the project scope and develop the
project schedule
- Deliver the construction phase, on time and to budget
- Assess project risks and develop response and mitigation actions
- Monitor, control and report on project progress including providing regular, timely,
accurate, progress reports to UNT Board and Steering Group
- Compile progress and monitoring reports to enable the project outcomes to be fully
documented against targets / indicators
- Establish and maintain appropriate systems for measuring and monitoring progress
of the Project and performance of contractors and sub-contractors
- Manage and control project expenditure within agreed budgets
Development and Implementation of Calanais masterplan
- Support the development and implementation of a wider “Calanais Masterplan”, setting
out an ambitious vision for the Calanais asset, in partnership with key stakeholders
Communicate and Engage
- Work closely with the commercial manager to develop a business management plan for
the operational model for cafe, shop and restaurant in line with project development
- Ensure delivery of agreed project related data from participating businesses
- Engage and communicate the benefits of the development to funding partners, local
community and other stakeholders, and world-wide Calanais “family”
- Consult with and update the local community regularly on the business, media and
marketing plan and related activities
- Liaise with other Calanais staff to understand all necessary aspects and needs of
operational development of the Calanais Visitor Centre, and to ensure they are fully
informed of operational objectives, purposes and achievements of the project.
