Problems with the telephone network hampered islanders on Harris making 999 calls on Wednesday.
Police advised people unable to contact the emergency services by phone to to fire stations at Tarbert, Scalpay or Leverburgh.
Extra police were rostered for car patrol around Harris.
Normal telephone service resumed later allowing all emergency service numbers to be contactable.
