Islander jailed for assault 9/4/14
An islander who only got out of prison three months ago has been sent back inside
for another stretch.
Angus Mackay Macdonald of 11 Geshader, Uig, Lewis, pleaded guilty to assault when
he appeared at Stornoway Sheriff Court.
The court heard the 45-year-old had been drinking with others last Saturday evening
into Sunday morning at an address in Seaview Terrace, Stornoway.
Procurator fiscal David Teale said a lot of drink had been consumed by everyone there.
Macdonald went into the kitchen and helped himself to a meal but he was challenged
by his victim.
Mr Teale said Macdonald became enraged and started punching him resulting in him
needed three stitches on his brow as well as leaving significant bruising and swelling
to his right eye.
Solicitor Kevin Macpherson said Macdonald was released from prison in January and
was due to start work as a fisherman this week.
He said his client rarely came into Stornoway but did on this occasion.
Sheriff David Sutherland sentenced Macdonald to six months for the assault and also
instructed he serve the unexpired part of his original prison sentence. The total
term is 15 months.
