Over 900 households were without electricity in North Uist and Benbecula after power cuts hit the islands today.

Fierce winds brought down electricity lines around Lochmaddy and also in Creagorry. Hydro engineers rerouted supplies in both areas to reconnect many affected homes. Remaining properties were switched back on when the faults were repaired.
