Hydro engineers repairing power cut

Hydro engineers are out in wintry conditions and strong winds repairing a power cuts.  

Some 3000 properties in Lewis lost power during today’s storm.

Hydro engineers are working this evening to replace a fire damaged pole in Bayble in the Point district of Lewis. .

The incident resulted in loss of electricity for over 1100 homes in the surrounding area.

The pole was isolated and supplies rerouted for the majority of houses.

250 houses affected properties are expected to be reconnected by 9pm.

A power cut is also affecting West Tarbert in Harris. Engineers are working to reconnect residents by 7pm.

Earlier, supplies were restored to 2100 properties affected by a power cut in Shawbost, Carloway, Callanish, North Lochs, South Lochs and parts of Uig and Bernera.

Energy firm SSE moved additional engineers and equipment into the Western Isles ahead of the storm.
