All CalMac ferry sailings for the Western Isles region over Tuesday and Wednesday
have been placed on disruption alert as a a spell of wild weather moves in the the
Atlantic.
Strong south westerly winds and rough seas are expected on all sea routes in the
islands.
Blustery winds this evening will strengthen overnight with a weather front bringing
some spells of heavy rain from lunchtime onwards. The gale will have reached force
nine level in the morning hours with possible 65mph gusts in the Minch, continuing
over the afternoon.
A lull on Tuesday night may provide a brief respite but wind speeds are forecast
to ramp up again from the early hours of Wednesday with gale force winds over the
day.
Due to forecast adverse weather, Sound of Barra sailings are liable to disruption
or cancellation at short notice over the next two days. CalMac advises passengers
with essential travel plans to travel today, Monday 3 March.
The Berneray - Leverburgh also risk being affected by rough seas.
Tuesday’s Barra - Oban sailings and Wednesday’s shared Castlebay / Lochboisdale
service is on yellow alert with strong gusts expected.
MV Loch Seaforth intends to undertake tonight’s (Monday) freight run to the mainland
but will remain in Ullapool overnight. Tuesday’s 7am sailing out of Stornoway is
cancelled while the bad weather may impact her timetable over the rest of the day.
On Wednesday all Stornoway - Ullapool passenger and freight services face possible
short notice delays or cancellations.
MV Hebrides sailings for Lochmaddy and Tarbert will be liable to disruption or cancellation
at short notice.
Sailing information is likely to be updated by CalMac when revised weather forecasts
are available.
