Police assault            18/2/13

A Lewis woman who assaulted a female police officer when trying to prevent her male companion, Iain Robertson McCloy, being detained was placed on a two year alcohol testing programme when sentenced at Stornoway Sheriff Court on Friday.

Natalie Kim Millar of 9 New Road, Lower Bayble, Lewis, was also banned from drinking alcohol. She previously pleaded guilty to slapping the officer on the face and pulling her on 29 August.

Her lawyer said Millar had been “motivated by goodwill towards Mr McCoy and confused by her intoxicated state.”

The 23-year-old was sentenced to 50 hours unpaid community service work for a traffic offence. She had gone on trial over three motoring charges and was found guilty of having no insurance.

Millar was acquitted of being in charge of a vehicle while twice the legal alcohol limit.  Sheriff David Sutherland found her not guilty of permitting McCloy to drive a car while not possessing a full licence.

Meanwhile, Iain McCloy previously pleaded guilty to drink driving with an alcohol count about three times the legal limit. He had 100mg against the minimum 35mg allowed while driving in the Back area on Lewis on 13 December. He also admitted driving without insurance.

McCloy was banned from driving for 18 months. Given his lack of financial means a £800 fine was altered to 100 hours of community service.
