Balivanich Police Station is to close for the next six months for rebuilding.

 

A new extension is being added onto its gable end facing the Comhairle’s offices, while its detached garage will be lengthened and linked to the existing building.

 

The alterations will form new offices, custody charge bar, processing room. There will also be a new generator space. More parking spaces will be created at the rear.

 

From Monday, police officers and staff will be based at Lochmaddy Police Station where a service desk will be open to the public on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

 

A police spokesman highlighted the public telephone kiosk on the main road right beside Balivanich Police Station should people need to contact the police.

 

Renovations are due to take 24 weeks and should be finished in May.
