A man who assaulted a police officer has been sentenced to a two year community payback order.

Sheriff David Sutherland also imposed a 9pm to 4am nightly curfew on Russell Mackinnon.

The 29-year-old was convicted of the assault plus a second charge of threatening behaviour.

The incidents occurred in Point Street, Stornoway, in October.

Mackinnon whose address was given as 16 Limepark, Broadford, Skye, also received a 24-month drinking ban.

In addition, he was ordered to undertake 150 hours of unpaid community service work.
