Plane stuck for hours until glue dried              7/10/14

A Loganair plane heading for Stornoway was stuck at a mainland airport until glue dried on its tail.

Passengers were held up after a hole was discovered in the tail wing of the aircraft.

The repaired section of its de-icing system was patched-up but the adhesive took hours to dry.

The 15 travellers heading for Edinburgh boarded the plane some two-and-a-half hours late.

The flight to Stornoway was due to leave Edinburgh at 5pm on  on Wednesday but did not take off until 7.30pm.

The plane flys under the colours of Flybe but is operated by its franchise partner, Loganair.

A Loganair spokesman , who runs the route for FlyBe, said: "During a preflight inspection ahead of the 5pm departure of the BE6147 service from Edinburgh to Stornoway on October 1, a fault was discovered in the aircraft’s deicing system.

"The pneumatic section of the tail needed an adhesive patch, which required the necessary curing period before the aircraft was cleared for departure at 7.23pm.

"We would like to take this opportunity to apologise for the inconvenience caused, but as a provider of public transport services, passenger safety must always be our primary concern."
