Piping school             21/1/12

With the new term getting underway, MiLC’s Stornoway-based piping school is extending a very warm welcome to new and returning students alike, and especially to those wishing to take up or return to playing the pipes in 2012.

MiLC Piping School was formed in September 2011 to promote and develop piping in Lewis and Harris, and to give people of all ages and piping levels a chance to develop their piping in a supportive and informative environment and with other local learner pipers.

Now in its second term, the pipe school is looking to build on the success of its first term, with over 25 students and a team of excellent tutors including Larry Ferguson, Ashley Macdonald, Scott Morrison, John Angus Graham and John Murdo Graham - offering tuition to all levels of players from complete beginners to advanced students.

It currently meets every Monday night in the Laxdale Hall from 6:30pm to 9pm, and the cost of the term’s lessons is £50 (ten lessons in the term).

MiLC spokesman Gordon Murray said: ‘We hope that anyone with an interest in learning the pipes will come along and enjoy our friendly environment. We have a great selection of tunes to learn together, and the school offers first class value for those wanting to start to play the pipes.‘

Anyone wishing to have a taster lesson should come along at 6.30pm on Monday, all welcome.
