The Harris ferry was prevented from docking in Tarbert on time because of a man causing a hazard on the pier.

Police were called when his behaviour raised concerns after he breached a cordon and went on the linkspan around 11am on Saturday morning.

Fears that the man - who appeared to be unsteady on his feet - could have fallen in the water resulted in Leverburgh lifeboat being launched.

The MV Hebrides was just arriving from Skye at the time but was held up at sea until the male was out of danger.

He was checked over by ambulance staff before being questioned by police officers.

The Caledonian Macbrayne ferry later docked and delayed passengers were allowed to disembark.

A strict harbour rule is the ferry is not permitted to dock if anyone is within certain danger zones on the pier.
