Several islanders have been without phone or internet services for two months because of BT, according to MP Angus MacNeil.

Mr MacNeil highlighted BT usually acts “swiftly” when he asks the telecoms giant to assist constituents over phone lines and broadband issues.

However, a current “shambolic” situation has left one island resident without phone or broadband for almost eight weeks.

The MP said: “People are angry and disillusioned with BT and I certainly do not blame them.”

He said many people work from home and depend on broadband for their living.”

“It beggars belief that a customer can be left eight weeks without a service and despite the fault having been escalated to the highest level within BT, no progress is being made.

“Sadly, this is not an isolated incident where customers are being let down by appointments not being met.”

A BT spokesman said: “Mr MacNeil is not happy that an islander was left without service for eight weeks and neither are we, because, as he points out, in most instances when he calls BT the response is swift.

“I’m not aware of this particular delay or the circumstances that led to it but I can assure Mr MacNeill that we will fully investigate it.”
