Philanthropist honoured by Lewis and Harris Association

16 November 2014

Iain Macritchie - who has Point and Barvas links - set up the MCR Pathways Project which provides help and mentoring to youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds and guides them routes into school, education and jobs.

The scheme has launched in Glasgow where it is helping youths in the east end of the city.

This week it won the Most Promising Education Project 2014 award from the Scottish Mentoring Network.

The 49-year-old philanthropist who was raised in Glasgow and now lives in Buckinghamshire has a day job of turning around failing companies.

The mentoring project is run by the MCR Charitable Foundation set up by Mr Macritchie with £250,000 start-up funding in 2007. The foundation receives 10% of his business profits annually.

SNP MSP Alasdair Allan congratulated Mr Macritchie: “Iain is a worthy recipient of this award.

“The innovative project he has pioneered for young people is targeted particularly for those who are disadvantaged, and uses a team of mentors to give experienced advice which allows people to find new careers and opportunities.”

He added: “Iain has clearly used his own talents and abilities to help others find their way in life.”
