Peacock “disappointed” over delayed cable  12/11/10

Highlands and Islands Labour MSP Peter Peacock has expressed his disappointment at SSE’s decision to delay plans to build a sub-sea cable required to export electricity from onshore island wind farms to the mainland.

Without the interconnector it is impossible for planned giant windfarms to get connected into the national grid.

Mr Peacock said: "I am extremely disappointed that this project has been delayed.

“A sub-sea cable from the islands to the mainland would mean the Western Isles could tap into its tremendous wind energy potential, creating jobs and bringing in much needed revenue to island communities.

"I will be contacting SSE and the energy minister in both Parliaments to seek clarification about the reasons for the hold up and urging all parties to work together to ensure this important project goes ahead as soon as possible."
