“Personal vendetta” of councillors            6/3/13

Sirs,

I am writing with regards to the CNES’s decision to abolish the life line air service connection between Barra and Benbecula. I cannot believe that they have decided to take away this vital service and they clearly don’t care about the impact it is going to have on Barra and Benbecula.

They boast on their web page that they promote equality, but this is obviously not the case when it comes to the Southern Isles.

The six Uist councillors who voted to discontinue this vital link should hang their heads in shame for their decision; they are elected members and are supposed to listen to the people who elected them in and not be led like sheep with their pathetic personal vendetta’s, it is quite disgusting.

The impact of these cuts will mean no fresh blood for the hospital, the reduction of two seats on the Glasgow to Barra flight due to the extra fuel required for the return journey and probably the end of the newspapers, not to mention the possible job losses and reduction in hours for some staff, but, because it is not happening in Stornoway the council don’t really care.

I understand that the council receive £148,000 of subsidy from the Scottish Government to run this service. If they need to make cuts then cut some of the wages in the council itself, you have three people at the head of the council doing one job - what’s that all about?  I would hope that the subsidy from the Scottish Government is withdrawn as soon as possible because the flight has already been dropped.

There should be a vote of no confidence taken against the CNES, we would be better off back with Inverness.
