Pentland Road windfarm construction continues              5/11/12

Work at the Pentland Road windfarm site on Lewis goes on despite the delay to the subsea cable.

The development on the Newvalley and Point grazings on the Pentland moor was the first mooted for the island and has secured about 13 MW of capacity on the local grid so, unlike later and larger schemes, it is not wholly dependent  on the interconnector.

However, it had expected to export about a quarter of its output and the subsea cable will hit its business plans.

Here, some 40 tonnes of steel is used to make a framework for the turbine base. A convoy of trucks will fill it full of concrete.

Steel bars are tied together to form a lattice framework and strengthen the base.

The first of six turbine foundations to be concreted.
