Storm: Traditional peat fire combats powercut

12 January 2015

Mrs Kennedy said peat fire kept herself and her husband cosy while cooking by bottled gas meant they had hot meals.

Electricity supplies were off for about four days after last week’s big storm.

Hydro workers were replacing burnt poles and repairing fallen lines to get the community back on supply.

Mrs Kennedy said: “The power went off on Thursday night and this is now the fourth day.

“This is the longest ever we’ve been without power.

“A lady from the hydro phoned and said 21 extra engineers were being drafted in on the Harris ferry.“

“The storm was bad here. But there’s nothing we could do about it anyway.”
