Paypoint scam in Western Isles           14/1/12

Police are warning shops and petrol stations of a scam hitting Paypoint facilities around the Western Isles.

Fraudsters are phoning businesses saying they are engineer requiring to change screen options on the Ukash facility.

The fraudster gives a series of figures under the guise of being system codes.  A voucher will then be produced by the facility which will allow the fraudster access to the funds.

Ukash is used to exchange cash for a voucher which can be used as an alternative to a credit cards for internet transactions up to £500.

Affected shops should inform Stornoway Police on 01851 702222 or through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
