A minister has been appointed to Barvas Free Church, Lewis,  which has been without a pastor for the past four years.

Rev Murdo Campbell - who recently completed his studies at the Edinburgh Theological Seminary .- has accepted a call from the congregation.

The 26-year-old, who undertook a six-week placement with Barvas last summer as part of his training for the ministry, accepted the call in person last week.

An date for the induction will be announced in due course but Mr Campbell is likely to move to Lewis before the end of the summer along with his wife Alison, 24, and two sons David and Finlay.

Mr Campbell left school at 17 to do an apprenticeship as an electrician in Stornoway, but was converted the following year and felt a call to the ministry three months later.

However, it wasn’t until he was 21 that he left his job and began studying a BA degree with the Highland Theological College in Dingwall which he completed via distance learning.
