A serial offender was jailed for eight and a half when sentenced for motoring offences at Stornoway Sheriff Court.

The court heard Lewis man, David Macleay, drove a Fiat Puno while unfit though drink or drugs.

The 28-year-old drove the vehicle despite being disqualified - having been banned for five years in 2014. Neither was there any valid insurance.

When caught, Macleay, of 97 Leurbost, behaved in an abusive manner by repeatedly swearing and shouting, and making offensive remarks to police officers while being taken from Carloway to Stornoway.

He also failed to provide a blood test to ascertain his ability to drive.

Sentence was backdated to 13 June when Macleay was initially remanded in custody after pleading guilty to the charges.
